TOUCH PROJECT PROFILE: NABA: masters in Digital Environment Design

V.I.P.  Virtual Identity Process is an interactive installation produced by the students participating in the Masters of Digital Environment Design at the NABA in Milan, Italy.

An infrared camera is mounted next to a video projector beaming down onto a white ‘interactive table’. Tracking software (Mocolo) then provides touch with information via MIDI of movement withing the projection area. MAXmsp was employed for realtime sound synthesis.

Within TouchDesigner, cell like particles are generated in the areas where movement is detected. As the number of participants increases, a vortex field comes into play drawing the particles into the center of the table, where a single cell like structure starts to appear. The overall sensation is of creation and redirection of cellular information with an evident correspondence between hand movement and the movement of the realtime graphics.
